International Observatory on End of Life Care
The International Observatory on End of Life Care within the Division of Health Research, is part of a consortium which has been awarded European Commission funding under the Horizon Programme for Pal-Cycles: Palliative care yields cancer wellbeing support. This is an exciting five-year study where we are evaluating an intervention to improve the communication and continuity of care for cancer patients who have palliative needs. The study involves developing the intervention based upon results of a previous study, a review of the literature and adaption with clinicians in the UK. The intervention is being evaluated through a trial in two hospitals in each of the eight countries involved (UK, Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Portugal). We are currently developing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) about the project.
We are looking for a researcher with experience in palliative care to develop this course with us and international colleagues. Professor Nancy Preston and Professor Sheila Payne are the project leads. You will be expected to assist with all aspects of the project as required.

We seek to appoint 1 full-time post-doctoral research associate (starting Summer 2026) to complete a team of 4 researchers who are exploring novel concepts for security controls and assurance in converged and ultra-large scale infrastructures.
The successful candidate for this role will develop new techniques for orchestrating security controls in dynamic and complex systems undergoing frequent changes to their function and security requirements. This work will involve researching how to introduce interactions between security controls to achieve security goals and exploring the trade-offs of doing so. We seek to appoint a researcher who has either experience in abstract modelling of distributed systems or practical experience deploying and experimenting with security controls.

The Division of Health Research, within Lancaster University’s Faculty of Health and Medicine, is seeking a committed and experienced Project Manager to lead on administration of the new Mental Health Research Group (MHRG). The MHRG is a five-year initiative funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), who have recently awarded Lancaster University almost £11 million to conduct world-class mental health research in the North West region.
More than 13,000 people in Lancashire and South Cumbria have been diagnosed with a severe mental illness, while Blackpool has the highest rate of deaths linked to addiction and suicide in England. In conjunction with partners at the University of Manchester and King’s College London, the group will identify local needs and priorities for mental health research and work alongside residents to develop a more proactive, preventative model of care.
Four initial research themes aim to tackle inequities in access to effective mental health interventions, particularly for those experiencing multiple disadvantages and/or complex mental health issues, who are often excluded from mainstream services. A robust knowledge mobilisation infrastructure will be implemented to ensure that research translates rapidly into significant improvements in health and social care. The voices of diverse individuals with lived experience are central to all aspects of the research programme.
You will play an integral role in the MHRG programme and its management, coordinating collaboration with all programme members to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the programme objectives. This will include leading on strategic engagement with partner institutions, including other universities, NHS Trusts and third sector organisations, as well as on tracking MHRG progress again defined KPIs, managing budgets and expenditure, and producing accurate and timely project reports. We invite applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position to join the Statistical Foundations for Detecting Anomalous Structure in Stream Settings (DASS) Programme, based at Lancaster University. The DASS Programme will consider the foundational statistical challenges of identifying anomalous structure in streams within constrained environments, handling the realities of contemporary data streams, and identifying and tracking dependence across streams.
This £4M programme is funded by EPSRC and brings together research groups from the Universities of Lancaster, Bristol, Warwick and the London School of Economics together with a committed group of industrial and public sector partners.
Interaction between the research groups at the universities will be strongly encouraged and resourced; our philosophy is to tackle the methodological, theoretical and computational aspects of these statistical problems together. This integrated approach is essential to achieving the substantive fundamental advances in statistics envisaged, and to ensuring that our new methods are sufficiently robust and efficient to be widely adopted by academics, industry and society more generally.
The programme is led by Idris Eckley (Lancaster University), Haeran Cho (University of Bristol), Paul Fearnhead (Lancaster University), Qiwei Yao (London School of Economics) and Yi Yu (University of Warwick).
This 2-year position is available at Lancaster University. You should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline. Throughout, you should have demonstrated an ability to develop new statistical theory and methods in one of the relevant areas, including but not limited to: anomaly detection; changepoint analysis; non-stationary time series analysis, high dimensional statistics, statistical-computational tradeoffs, scalable statistical methods. You will be expected to contribute to the development of future competitive funding applications to ensure sustainability in mental health research; previous experience is desirable.

You will support the development and delivery of a complex, high-impact digital and systems change in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Information System Services (ISS) is looking for a strategic, detail-oriented, confident, and driven Business Transformation Manager to take on a crucial role in this significant programme. This is a fixed-term role lasting until 31st July 2027.
This role will primarily be based at the Lancaster University Bailrigg campus, with flexible hybrid working options available to support a healthy work-life balance. A minimum of two days per week in the office is expected.

Lancaster University is delivering a major programme to modernise its Identity and Access Management solution. We are seeking an Identity and Access Management Support Officer to assist with the coordination and delivery of this work. This is a fixed term contract until 28th May 2028.
This role will focus on supporting the migration of University systems to the new authentification and authorisation platforms. You will work closely with the project team, system owners and stakeholders across the University to communicate guidance provided by technical teams, coordinate migration schedules, and help ensure activities are delivered in a structured and timely manner.
Key responsibilities include coordinating activities with internal teams and external contractors, gathering and documenting requirements, supporting project tracking and reporting, and assisting with stakeholder engagement. You will also help organise and participate in awareness and drop-in sessions to support staff and students and promote understanding of the changes.
You will be highly organised, proactive and comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders. You should be enthusiastic, have strong communication skills, attention to detail and experience supporting projects or coordinating activities. Experience in IT or higher education and an understanding of identity management, authentification, or access control concepts is essential.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high impact initiative that forms part of the University's wider IT Strategy, whilst gaining valuable experience in project delivery within a large complex organisation.
